Steven Guilbeault joins the leadership team of the Bâtirente and Fondaction Combination as Executive Advisor, Climate, Biodiversity and Socioecological Transition

Montréal – Stéphan Morency, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fondaction and of the Bâtirente and Fondaction Combination, announces the appointment of Steven Guilbeault as Executive Advisor, Climate, Biodiversity and Socioecological Transition. In this new role on the Executive Committee, Mr. Guilbeault will help update and integrate environmental issues into the core of the organization’s strategy. He will also support the development of strategic relationships and initiatives with key stakeholders in the economic, institutional, and social sectors in Québec, elsewhere in Canada and internationally, to advance the socioecological transition. He will be attending Climate Week, which takes place September 20–27 in New York, alongside Mr. Morency.

Steven Guilbeault has advanced thinking and action on major environmental issues. His experience in civic, political, and institutional circles will enrich the organization’s strategic thinking on sustainability and impact investing. He will serve in this role part-time, in addition to his other long-term commitments.

“Our ambition is to use savings, investment and dialogue as levers for economic, social and ecological transformation. To achieve this, we must expand our horizons and incorporate diverse—and sometimes unexpected—perspectives. Steven Guilbeault has established himself as one of the most influential voices on environmental issues in Québec, in Canada, and on the international stage as an activist, rallying figure and decision-maker. His ability to drive ideas forward, build bridges between different groups, and mobilize support around complex issues will be a valuable asset as we move forward with the next stages of our development,” says Stéphan Morency.

Steven Guilbeault points out: “It’s a pleasure and a privilege to join the Bâtirente and Fondaction Combination team. Group savings are one of the most powerful tools for accelerating the ecological and social transition. I’m excited to contribute my experience to this critical effort to protect biodiversity and combat climate change.”

As a co-founder of Équiterre, campaign director at Greenpeace, federal Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, and Member of Parliament for Laurier–Sainte-Marie, Steven Guilbeault is one of the figures who has had the greatest impact on the evolution of environmental debates in Québec and Canada over the past three decades. Throughout his career, he has helped bring together civic, economic and political circles around major issues related to the ecological transition and the fight against climate change.

About the organization

Fondaction and Bâtirente—the labour-sponsored fund and group retirement plan established at the CSN’s initiative—have joined forces to form a new organization that uses group savings as a catalyst for social and environmental progress. In partnership with Fondaction Asset Management, this new group develops sustainable and impact-driven savings and investment solutions. Its offerings are aimed at socially conscious individuals and groups who want their savings to reflect their values and help build the world in which they want to live. In 2026, it has more than $6 billion in funds and assets under management, and nearly 250,000 people who have chosen to entrust their savings to it.
